Comparing maps & documents from 2001 to 2009 showing "gates" or barriers
Things are not always as they seem. Sometimes its
easier to accomplish a goal in little steps rather than trying to take huge
strides. The current "2 gates" project as proposed does appear to be
just a building block of the overall BDCP for a Central Canal. Take a
look at the planning maps from the last few years and see what YOU think....
(Summary: The map series from 2003-2009, found in various
planning documents produced by USBR, DWR, and other state/federal
agencies portrays a plan to use barrier
gates to stop fresh water from escaping from the "central canal"
area, and to keep fish from the western part of the San Joaquin from
being sucked into the central canal and therefore at risk for
suction into the water pumps.) The barrier gates would serve
two important functions: keep fresh water in, keep fish out. |
