Delta Maps, documents and reports from 1940 to 1979
Look closely at the maps below.  These maps represent the water plan from the 1960's that
is the basis for the Delta Plan and Bay Delta Conservation Plan of the 21st Century.

We've scanned many of the documents from the planning period and post here.   In the meantime,
please go to the "issues" pages or the "Delta Maps" or the "Canal Plans" pages as these provide many of the
links, documents or maps of this time period based on the specific topic or issue of the series.

Much of the revised central conveyance route is already completed.  Projects labeled "flood control", restoration, and "field studies" were building blocks of the conveyance plan of CALFED.  Note that rivers like Gorgiana and Mokelumne are already deeper, having been dredged while the levees were improved in 2006-2008 time span.  Widening of the Mokelumne, Old River San Joaquin, and other waterways around the central Delta area on the map to the right were done 2009-2013 and may be ongoing now.  When the city of Stockton put in the siphon at Empire Tract, did a second tunnel get built to divert water under the San Joaquin River?  Ask URS and look at phase 2 of the DRMS report.
As to the diversion of water from Folsom Lake directly into the San Joaquin watershed, the tunnels or large pipes may already be complete but the water diversion will only start when the changes to Folsom Dam new gates and auxilliary flow bypass are completed.
