On this page you will find links to pdfs or
maps produced by the agencies as noted in 2003. Click on the graphics
to see readable or enlarged version of each one. These are the ones we
found easily online. There are many other studies, as indicated by the
table references and bibliographies of the reports. You should also
review the maps section of this website, particularly the historic maps.
The canal plan was proposed in 1965 and 1978-82 (called the peripheral
canal) and was voted down by the voters of the state.
Same canal plan...new name. Planning and implementation of the latest
canal plan started in earnest in 2002 based on documents we've reviewed.
Ironically, our current governor is well known for his movie phrase "I'll be
back". Perhaps the folks who got him to run to push through this same
canal plan had a bit of sense of humor? Certainly if the peripheral
canal could talk, it too would have the motto "I'll be back!"
Note that even before he became the governor, the governator was sending
letters to the US Senate to get funding for the studies under the "CALFed"
umbrella and other Delta planning agencies. The "In Delta Storage"
options or IDS reports and maps are particularly interesting as they apply
to 2010
proposals. **Note that some of the links below are for slide show
presentations that were done in .ppt or other formats. Please take the
time to look at our timeline. It is clear
that the Interim Delta Plan of the 2010 Delta Stewardship Council will
complete the CalFed "Central Canal", as many of the different elements of
that central canal are already built.
